How long have you had dentures?

I became a denture wearer on December 15, 2010 at the age of 26.

Where did you get your dentures?

Both my temporary and permanent set of dentures are from Coastal Dental here in Jacksonville, FL.

How much did your dentures cost?

My first set (temporary dentures) cost around $800. With extractions and alveoplasty (smoothing out my ridge) everything came up to $4150.
My second set (permanent dentures) cost around $2250.
I did not have insurance. My mom used her Care Credit and I made payments to her.

I can’t afford dental work, do you know of someone who could help?

Unfortunately, I do not. I was in the same situation at one point. Try calling 2-1-1. It’s United Way’s free helpline, which connects you to local resources that may be able to help.

Do you have a special kind of denture?

No. The dentures I had were pretty much run-of-the-mill dentures.

How did you get your dentures to look so real?

I think if you stick as close to what you had when your teeth were at their best, they will look more natural.
For my temporary set, I helped select the tooth shape and size. I wanted larger teeth, since that is what I had pre-denture.
For the permanent set, I was far more involved in the process. You can find information on how we obtained the final set HERE.

What is the difference between temporary and permanent dentures?

I can see where the confusion would be. Lucky for you, I made a video explaining the difference! Here is that video, below:

Does it hurt to get Dentures?

The easy answer would be no, it doesn’t hurt. But everyone is different. For me, it did not hurt. The worst part was the shots that numb you. Once you are numb, you’re numb. Whether you get one tooth or all teeth pulled, you’re still just as numb.
Some people don’t numb well. Pain management should be discussed prior to the procedure with your prosthodontist/oral surgeon/dentist. Personally, I wouldn’t go through with it if I weren’t totally numb.

What can I expect after surgery?

If you can bare the profanity, I have covered that for you in the following video. I was younger and of a different frame of mind than I am today. So excuse the language:

Where did you get your implants done?

In September of 2012, I entered a smile makeover contest hosted by Dr. Golpa’s Dental Implant Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I won the All-on-4 implant procedure, which can be explained HERE. My winnings amounted to $54k worth of work!

Do you have to take your teeth out?

No, I have permanently fixed bridges that attach to four implants on top, four on bottom.

Why haven’t you responded to my email?

I try my best to get back to every single email I receive. The thing is, I have four kids. Their ages 9, 4, 2, and 6 months. My oldest child has special needs. So I am a very busy mom.
I try to find my balance but have yet to find something that allows me the time I need for all of my obligations.
A lot of the questions I receive have all been answered in blog articles and videos. I understand that it is hard for most to pick through each of those videos and articles. All I ask, is that you understand it is also hard for me to find time to answer these frequently asked questions.
Hence, the frequently asked questions page! Please don’t be offended if you are directed here! I want your questions answered in the quickest way possible!

Do you get paid for your videos and blog?

I make a very small amount of money from advertisements that are placed on my videos and through out my blog. Trust me, I am no Ray William Johnson or Jenna Marbles, if that’s what you’re wondering LOL.

I hope all of this helps!
